Narrative Writing: Show Don't Tell

"Show, don't tell" is a common technique that teachers use to help students elaborate with their writing. One way to use it is to reread your piece of writing and identify the parts of the story that should have the most attention. Think, "what is really important here?"

Once you've identified those parts look for examples of where you just told the reader exactly what happened. Then go back and ask yourself the following questions:

1- What did I see in that moment?
2- What did I hear in that moment?
3- What did I feel in that moment?

Use those three questions to help you describe the moment with more details.
